Pirelli and Formula 1 tyres: For many it seemed like a dream match up when Pirelli replaced Bridgestone as the official Tyre supplier for Formula 1. They have however had a rocky couple of seasons and the 2013 season was no different, with a number of high profile issues during the British Grand prix at Silverstone in July. In fairness to Pirelli though they were given a difficult brief when they partnered with Formula 1, which was to make the tyres less reliable and to encourage more competition through increased pit stops and shift the focus on to a teams race strategy. (They certainly managed to do this) However, Pirelli managed to overcome these issues in the latter stages of the season and only a few of weeks since the end of the 2013 Formula 1 season Pirelli have released a number of statistics relating to their initial 3 year contract. (Covering 2011 – 2013 seasons) After crunching all the numbers the Pirelli figures are quite staggering when you consider that during the 3 seasons the premium tyre manufacturer has supplied over 110,000 tyres to Formula 1 used in over 3000 pit stops. Incredibly Pirelli managed to recycle 100% of the 112,200 tyres that it supplied to the teams. However, it wasn't just tyre numbers that Pirelli crunched and they have supplied the figures on pit stop timings with Red Bulls Mark Webber making the fastest pit stop in the United States Grand Prix in 2013, remarkably just 1.923 seconds were needed to change the tyres and refuel. Tyres.Online has some of the best fitting stations and tyre fitters in the country but we're not sure any of ours could quite manage that! Pirelli will harness the experience and knowledge it's teams developed during the 2013 season to further their premium passenger vehicle tyres. With the Pirelli P Zero covering over 358,000 kilometers during the 2013 formula 1 season, you can bet they will have some significant enhancements to their passenger tyre line up in 2014.
Pirelli, Formula 1 and Michelin: With the claims from drivers that their performance has been stifled by tyre management issues it looks like it could be time for Pirelli and the Formula 1 big wigs to re-think the brief for the 2014 season. However, with reports in the summer that Michelin were poised to take over from Pirelli for the 2014 F1 season now seemingly defunct, Pirelli will begin testing it's 2014 Fomula 1 tyre offering this month in Bahrain, gearing itself up for another year at the helm of motorsports biggest brand.
