Apparently we are all buying less fuel, 2.4 Billion litres less than in 2008!! Im sure I am at the pumps more than ever though. At the Tyres.Online office in Manchester we were wondering how this could be. With cars getting more efficient, people driving less miles and maybe more inclined to join "car share" schemes all these could be contributing factors. Your choice of car tyre can also have a big effect on this, many manufacturers specifically design car tyres for economy, not just on tread wear, but also to increase fuel efficiency, such as the Goodyear Efficient grip. Following this we thought it may be good to offer some advice on how to save those, apparently now less frequent trips to the petrol station!. Drive Smoothly, Tearing away from traffic lights may be hugely satisfying but can use up to 60% more fuel than driving normally!. Look ahead, read the road, this will eliminate "stopping and starting" Dont rev your engine, unless you are on a drag strip, revving your engine does only one thing! Stick to the speed limits! Driving at 80mph uses 10-15% more fuel than driving at 70mph and you don't risk the chance of a "friendly" chat with the local PC...... Check your tyres! Under inflated or worn tyres can increase the amount of fuel you use drastically and also decrease the comfort of your ride.
